Invasive Weed Program

Invasive Weeds

An invasive weed mapping and eradication program on Moosup Pond was conducted around the 2009 time frame by the Town of Plainfield. The best information related to this program and past activities can be found in this report:

Aquatic Control 2009 Report

In 2019 with the support of the MPA membership, the MPA executive committee reached out to Aquatic Control Inc. to learn more about past weed erradication activities and find out how we could characterize the current state of invasive weed growth in Moosup Pond. We learned Aquatic Control Inc. was bought out by Solitude Lake Managment but many of the same people involved in the previous weed eradication efforts continued on as part of Solitude Lake Managment team. The recommendation of Solitude Lake Management was to start with a mapping of current invasive weed species and locations in Moosup Pond.

In July 2019 MPA membership decided to authorize Solitude Lake Management to map the type and location of invasive weed species in Moosup Pond. The survey was conducted in August of 2019 and the map will be delivered to MPA around the November 2019 time frame when Solitude Lake Management typically produces its maps.
